Talk Like That- Artist Talks
I’ve been thinking of finding places to do artist talks. One of the books I read – one of about 17 I took out of the Ottawa library- suggested that doing artist talks for say, old folks’ homes (is that what they’re called in polite company?) would be a good start. You’ve got people looking for someone to show up and be interesting, and you’ve got an artist who needs to learn to talk about their art and start to represent themselves.
This is, obviously, intimidating. But it’s a good small start. And maybe one day could evolve into getting studio visits like the (or at least, interesting sneak-peek sort of affairs) Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver is doing. Reading their descriptions made me both want to have them over and tag along.
Thinking of going to: A talk by artist/curator Camilla Singh.
Born in England, Camilla Singh currently lives and works in Toronto. Singh is a young and articulate artist who also works as assistant curator for the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. She has worked in conceptual art, including audio, video, sculpture, photography, and performance. Her latest work is aesthetically seductive while interweaving hard pornographic images with images from the interiors of churches and cathedrals. Singh turned critics’ heads with her work “Gentle Soothing Action,” a multimedia installation which included a video of her showering.
Thursday, May 21st at 7pm in the ECU Theatre Rm.301, South bldg.
A private reception for CASV members will follow the lecture
