Have you ever desperately needed something done, and when another person stepped up, instead of accepting their help, said, “Oh, I couldn’t ask you to do that!”
Do you ever find yourself working hard to get something done, and wonder why nobody else seems to step up when you always do?
I have some great news for you!
Everybody is different! I know, right, it’s so obvious. But instead of saying, “Oh, I couldn’t ask you to do that” while thinking you’re shoving all the tasks you don’t want to do onto some helpless person who will hate it as much as you do, think of it this way:
Have you ever really wanted to do something and been told, “No, so-and-so is going to do it instead!” ? Did you feel disappointed? Have you ever felt like your skills, strengths, and the stuff that you really shine at, is under-utilized? How much does that suck!
What if you’re at a job where you’re never given tasks to do that you’re good at?
How demoralizing!
We do that to people ALL THE TIME!
Just because I hate to do Such and Such doesn’t mean SO AND SO hates it!
If so and So loves writing, and you love organizing, why give So and So the organizing task? They’ll suck at it, you’ll hate doing the writing, and meanwhile you’re thinking “Oh, I’m such a great person to be doing this so SO AND SO doesn’t have to!”
Drop it! Find out what your strengths are, find out what your team is good at. Don’t burden yourself doing something you hate, because you’re depriving So and So of excelling at what they LOVE!
And what am I good at? My strengths are reading, gaining knowledge, and assimilating it so that I can share it with others. This whole blog post is about stuff I learned at Monique’s “Discover Your Sacred Gifts” workshop, for example! I also excel at craftsmenship- creating art, bringing beauty to the world and seeing it where others don’t. I also have about four more, which I won’t go into today.
I am now looking for: A person who fills in MY gaps!
Do you love being dedicated to the success of another? Would you be able to anticipate needs, get in my head, and get really excited about my vision? Would you love to help me get my art into the world, so we can show other artists how to get THEIR art into the world?
<or>
Do you love structure, creating systems, and are an amazing, efficient planner? Would you love to ferret out awesome opportunities and send in applications, and execute logistical plans? Are you great at implementing and delegating?
<or>
Do you love getting things done? Are you task-oriented, all about saying “What can I do?” and always find yourself in the small cross-section of people that show up and are committed to the task? You do it and have fun!
I would love to share my gifts with you, if you would contact me and share your awesomeness with me. We can create an awesome venture together, and share all the success and benefits of doing so. If you’re the right person, you’ll help me work out all those details.

Katana,
HELLO!!!
This is Sally from the Sacred Gifts workshop. I’ve just spent some time wandering happily through your artwork. You are delightfully gifted and I am so glad you are sharing YOU with the rest of the world. I have to tell you that I didn’t open the little paper you passed me on Sunday, until I arrived home. I thought it was simply your contact info. I was completely heart warmed when I finally did read it. I am so grateful for your offer. What a dear and wonderful thing to do. I am so honored by your kind generosity. Please give yourself a hug from me. I would love to receive one of your beautiful creations and look forward to the day when that takes place. Meanwhile, keep making the world the way you see it available to the rest of us – you are magical!

Oh I’m so delighted! *hugs*
Send me an email when there’s a time you’d like to come and take a look. When I keep my paintings in my closet, I don’t have a reason to make more, because that’s not what gifts are for!

Great post! You absolutely nailed it! Focus on your strengths and what you love doing. Find someone else who loves to do the things you hate and have them do those things for you!

Thanks, Robert!
Katana,
I like your ideas of utilizing the strengths of others instead of going it alone. Life’s journey can be enriched and enhanced through the interactions with others. Think of the experiences you can have by working with others towards a common goal.
Thanks so much for sharing,

Val

Hey Katana,
Wonderful post. Thanks for sharing with us all.
I mentor of mine once told me… “We you choose not to receive you are denying someone the privilege to give.” That has stuck with me when you mentioned about not wanting to take on peoples offers for help in the beginning of your post.
I know that we all have unique talents and gifts that we have been blessed with in this life.
Allowing ourselves to find them and have them revealed to us is so valuable and can lead to a life of peace and joy that most can not comprehend.
Allowing others into our lives to use their gifts is a good step in finding your own and being able to use them effectively.
Many blessings to you on your journey to fulfill your dreams.
When I come across people who are looking for you I will send them your way.
Make it a great day!
God Bless,
-ed

Katana – this being the first post I’ve read from you, I am enthralled to be reading it, but then after reading it, I believe you’re one of the most authentic bloggers out there. I’m super thrilled! I’ll be coming back for more!
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work. We cannot discount that others may share a vision with us and that they will have special talents and gifts that they can use to help you in your quest. Embrace the help!
Thanks again for the post!

Oh man. What great timing.
I was just feeling today a little bit like there were so many more awesome people on the internet that maintaining my little corner was not helping anybody.
Thank you for your encouragement.
I love the cycle of blogging and putting things out there. It surprises me the rewards (like your comment) seem always to come around when I need them, when I put in the effort to show up. <3

Thank you Katana! My first time visiting. Love your name. It’s a very powerful word in Japanese that is associated with honor in the samurai era.
This is a very powerful message that only a few get. One of the key lessons that my students in the Genius Mentorship Academy learn is to do only what you are a genius at and delegate work to those who consider it play.
Thank you for sharing the message!
