Rachel Brice (reference: YouTube) with Photoshop
The way humans are built is neat.
This bellydancer is very well known, one of the ‘belly dance superstars.’ She was interesting to ‘paint’ because of her hands and the shadows that her hair makes, and because she’s a dancer, the gesture of her body is interesting, and if the shadows and negative spaces are wrong, it’s all wrong.
This was painted by starting with a dark background colour, laying in the solid shapes, and then the highlights. Back over with the lost edges.
I picked a frame without her face because I wanted the focus to be on the movement of her hands.

Very cool work! I saw Rachel perform 2 or 3 years ago with the Bellydance Superstars (and Kami Liddle, who is my cousin’s daughter) and yes, their dance – Tribal – is so intricate! You really captured the “feel” of a performance!

Thank you! How wonderful that you got to see a performance- I’ve watched many of their clips and am in love.
